Hello there! Here's a tutorial on how to make that 'Sand Storm/Dust Fog' in the air. Let's get started...

[page=Making It]

  • First, you should make a brush (block) so your player can walk on. I prefer the 'dev/valuesand40' texture.

  • Second, the sand brush (block) you just made will be the ground your player walks on. Select that brush you just made and press CTRL+C
  • After doing this, press CTRL+V. You have copied your sand brush. Now, go to the texture browser tab and type/filter 'NODRAW'. It should look like this
  • Tutorial Image

  • Click the "APPLY CURRENT TEXTURE" tool. Tutorial Image
  • You should have an exact replica of the sand brush, but with the nodraw texture. Allign the nodraw brush exactly to the sand brush's coordinates in THE TOP COORDINATE
  • In the front coordinate, you want to make the nodraw brush stacking on top of the sand brush. So allign it like that.

  • After alligning this, select the nodraw brush. You want to make this effect show from the ground to the sky, so bring the nodraw brush's top surface a little bit higher.
  • Select the nodraw brush and press CTRL+T. Make this brush a 'func_smokevolume'. Below are some presets i have found out, and you can choose how you want it. (edit the settings for your choice)

  • Click the entity tool User Posted Image and select 'light_environment'.
  • Put this a little above your nodraw brush entity.
  • Edit the settings how I have them.
  • light_environment

Pitch: -45 (note: nice lighting :))
    Brightness: 241 248 158 200
    Ambient: 255 215 174 20

  • Click "APPLY".
  • Final Step, of course, you have to seal your map off with skybox.

Your done! Go to next page to see how each are rendered in-game as the final results!

Due to the downsizing of the images, you don't get the full quality, but in the zip you get the full size image.

very clear i like the tutorial, although there arent any images in the final result page or the making it (there are only 2 in making page), so if u could fix that; that would be great. But still good job nice and clear =)
